Mr. Chaib takes part in the proceedings of the 41st session of the APRM Focal Points Committee

State Secretary to the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, participated today, Wednesday, September 16, 2026, via videoconference, in the 41st Ordinary Session of the Focal Points Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM), which was dedicated to following up on the implementation of recommendations issued by the 35th Forum of Heads of State and Government of the Mechanism, held in Addis Ababa on February 13, 2026.

In this context, the meeting's agenda covered the approval of the outcomes of the 40th Session of the Focal Points Committee, held under the presidency of Algeria in January 2026, which defined the action plan priorities for the current year within the framework of executing the Mechanism's mandate. Emphasis was placed on the necessity of translating adopted decisions into concrete actions and strengthening governance assessment mechanisms in Member States, as they lie at the core of the Mechanism's primary mandate, thereby contributing to the promotion of good governance across the continent.

In his address on this occasion, the State Secretary reaffirmed Algeria's commitment, as a founding state and member of the Mechanism's current Troika presidency, to continue contributing to promoting the Mechanism's principles and achieving its objectives, supporting the implementation of its strategic plan, and enhancing the operational efficiency of the Continental Secretariat in executing its mandate, in line with the priorities and goals of the African Union Agenda 2063.

On the occasion of the meeting's endorsement of the report on the reference framework for the African Early Warning and Conflict Prevention Mechanism, which was approved by the Peace and Security Council of the African Union last August under the presidency of Algeria, the State Secretary commended the achievements made in enhancing the Mechanism's contribution to conflict prevention and addressing the nexus between governance, stability, and sustainable peace. He called for continuing the operationalization of this initiative, which will be the focus of a technical workshop organized by the Mechanism's Continental Secretariat in Algeria in the coming months.

Furthermore, the Focal Points Committee of the African Peer Review Mechanism approved a number of thematic reports related to evaluating the Mechanism's performance and strengthening the role of African youth in governance, as well as following up on the implementation process of the initiative to establish the African Credit Rating Agency, within the framework of continental efforts aimed at enhancing Africa's economic and financial resilience.
