Mr. Chaib receives a delegation of the Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation (FemWise-Africa)

The Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, received today a delegation from FemWise-Africa (the Network of African Women in Conflict Prevention and Mediation), affiliated with the African Union Panel of the Wise, led by the network's co-chairs, Ms. Dieh Ba and Ms. Effie Lumbo Owuor.

This meeting comes ahead of the regional forum titled "The Participation of FemWise-Africa Members in Preventing Terrorism and Violent Extremism in North Africa and the Sahel Region," hosted by Algeria on September 29–30, 2026.

On this occasion, the Secretary of State reaffirmed Algeria's commitment to continuing its support for African initiatives aimed at enhancing women's presence and active participation in conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding. This stems from Algeria’s unwavering dedication to elevating the status of women in society and empowering them to assume high-level roles and responsibilities. He also recalled Algeria's role during the founding process of FemWise-Africa, particularly through hosting the preparatory meetings for this continental initiative, as well as the first session of its General Assembly in December 2017.

For their part, the network's co-chairs praised Algeria's leading role in enhancing the status of African women and their contribution within the continental peace and security architecture, as well as its efforts to support the network's work and promote its presence at both the continental and regional levels.
