Mr. Chaib chairs the closing ceremony of the 10th edition of Africa Amnesty Month

The proceedings of the 10th edition of Africa Amnesty Month concluded today, Monday, September 14, 2026. Discussions produced a series of practical recommendations aimed at supporting continental peace and security efforts and advancing the goals of the "Silencing the Guns" initiative.

In his closing address, Secretary of State to the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Mr. Sofiane Chaib, emphasized that the meeting's main outcomes focused on bolstering preventive and awareness-raising efforts regarding the risks of arms proliferation and colonial-era landmines. He stressed translating relevant commitments and resolutions into concrete operational measures, particularly by tightening controls to prevent sensitive weapons and equipment from reaching terrorist and criminal groups, enhancing cooperation, sharing information, and reinforcing joint border surveillance. Furthermore, he highlighted the importance of engaging civil society, youth, women, scholars, and the media in consolidating the values of peace, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence.

The Secretary of State emphasized the necessity of addressing the root causes of conflicts and crises, bolstering peaceful resolution mechanisms, and enforcing peace and ceasefire agreements. Reaffirming Algeria's commitment, he underscored support for the leading role of the African Union Peace and Security Council and enhanced cooperation with the United Nations to consolidate the foundations of security, stability, and development across the continent.

The second day's program also features practical presentations on Algeria's experience in combating anti-personnel landmines inherited from the colonial era.

As a reminder, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, officially received this morning the delegation of the African Union Peace and Security Council participating in the 10th edition of "Africa Amnesty Month" in Algiers.
