Mr. Attaf receives the International Committee of the Red Cross President in New York

Continuing his activities as part of his working visit to New York, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, received Ms. Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The two sides discussed ways and avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation in fields related to promoting respect for international humanitarian law, alongside the challenges posed by new technologies, the rapid development of artificial intelligence, and those linked to the application of international humanitarian law in naval warfare.

The two sides also addressed the ongoing preparations ahead of the high-level international conference dedicated to "Preserving Humanity in War," scheduled to be held in Jordan in December 2026. The conference falls within the framework of the global initiative aimed at strengthening commitment to international humanitarian law, under which Algeria co-chairs—alongside Slovenia, Sierra Leone, and Costa Rica—the Working Group on the Protection of Civilian Infrastructure.
