Mr. Attaf receives Senegalese counterpart

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received this morning at the Ministry’s headquarters the Minister of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad of the brotherly Republic of Senegal, Mr. Cheikh Niang, who is on a working visit to Algeria.

On this occasion, the two ministers held a one-on-one meeting, followed by an expanded session of talks attended by members of the delegations of both countries.

The talks provided an opportunity to conduct a comprehensive assessment of Algerian–Senegalese relations and explore prospects for strengthening them in all priority areas, particularly hydrocarbons, energy, the pharmaceutical industry, finance, higher education and scientific research, and vocational training. They also discussed ways to increase bilateral trade by taking advantage of the opportunities offered by the African Continental Free Trade Area.

In this regard, the two sides agreed on the need to reactivate bilateral cooperation mechanisms in order to inject new momentum into these relations, particularly by preparing to convene the next session of the Algerian–Senegalese Joint Commission before the end of the current year and reviving the Algerian–Senegalese Business Council.

The meeting also provided an important opportunity to exchange views and perspectives on current regional and international issues of common interest, foremost among them the situation in the Sahel-Saharan region.
