Mr. Attaf Holds Talks with the United Nations Under-Secretary-General in New York

Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, held talks today, September 21, 2026, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, with Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on evolving developments in the Sahel-Saharan region and the role Algeria plays in supporting peace and stability in the area. The two sides also discussed the state of UN peacekeeping operations, the challenges they face, and ways to enhance their effectiveness, particularly in light of the comprehensive review of these operations, as well as adapting them to current transformations to ensure the execution of their mandates and the provision of necessary resources to enable them to fulfill their assigned tasks.
