Mr. Attaf Holds Talks in New York with His Nigerien Counterpart

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held talks today in New York with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Nigeriens Abroad of the sisterly Republic of Niger, Mr. Bakary Yaou Sangaré.

On this occasion, both sides underscored the importance they attach to further strengthening the existing relations of cooperation and partnership between the two countries, particularly in the fields of hydrocarbons, energy, trade, agriculture, and infrastructure, in line with the vision and directives of the leaders of the two nations and in service of the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.

In this context, the two ministers highlighted the value added by the completion of the power plant in Niamey, as well as the launch of development works on the "Kafra" oil block. They reaffirmed the importance of expanding cooperation and partnership in this vital sector, with a focus on exchanging expertise and sharing best practices between Algerian institutions and their Nigerien counterparts. They also agreed on the importance of encouraging commercial trade between the two countries, particularly in border regions.

In this regard, Mr. Ahmed Attaf reaffirmed Algeria’s readiness to continue supporting Niger in its endeavors aimed at valuing, exploiting, developing, and marketing its natural resources, thereby contributing to the achievement of set development targets and benefiting the brotherly Nigerien people. He highlighted the strategic importance of projects and infrastructure that enhance connectivity between the two countries and across the region as a whole, foremost among them the Trans-Saharan Highway and the Nigeria-Algeria Gas Pipeline project, reflecting the depth of the historical ties uniting the two nations.

For his part, the Nigerien Minister expressed his country's appreciation to Algeria for its continued support, assistance, and the sharing of its expertise and experience. He commended Algeria’s high level of competence and capabilities across various areas of cooperation, particularly in energy, infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
