Mr. Attaf Holds Talks in New York with Benin’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation

Continuing his activities on the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly convened in New York this week, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met with the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the sisterly Republic of Benin, Ms. Olushegun Adjadi Bakari / Shegun Adjadi Bakari [contextually rendered: Ms. Romuald Wadagni / Foreign Affairs Representative], with whom he discussed ways to ensure the implementation of the outcomes of his visit to Cotonou in July 2026.

In this context, the two ministers expressed their satisfaction with the improvement witnessed in bilateral cooperation relations, particularly in the fields of industrial investment and energy. They emphasized the importance of continuing on this path and strengthening the momentum characterizing relations between the two countries, especially ahead of the fourth session of the Joint Commission. In this regard, both sides stressed the importance of this mechanism serving as a framework to identify concrete projects capable of providing greater impetus to bilateral cooperation and enhancing trade exchanges between the two countries.

At the continental level, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated his counterpart on Benin assuming the presidency of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union for the month of September 2026. The two sides agreed to maintain consultation and coordination on peace and security issues across the continent, particularly in light of the upcoming 13th edition of the Oran Process, scheduled for December 2026.
