Mr. Attaf Participates in the Proceedings of the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated in the 23rd Extraordinary Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held on August 27 in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The session witnessed the endorsement of the Mauritanian candidate, Mr. Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, as the new Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, succeeding Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha from the Republic of Chad.

The session also served as an opportunity to review the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, in light of the ongoing and escalating Israeli violations against the Palestinian people and the resulting serious deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation.

In this context, participants emphasized the need to intensify efforts and take collective action to put an end to Israeli attacks and violations, and to provide international protection for the Palestinian people in a manner that guarantees their legitimate national rights.

For his part, the Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria's firm and steadfast stance in support of the Palestinian cause and the legitimate, inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, chief among them their right to establish an independent, sovereign state with Holy Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf also called for an end to Israeli aggression against Arab lands, stressing the imperative of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states. He highlighted the importance of de-escalation and prioritizing dialogue and peaceful means to address crises, thereby creating conditions conducive to establishing security and stability in the Middle East.

Furthermore, the Minister of State reiterated the importance of enhancing joint Islamic action and unifying positions regarding the challenges facing the Islamic world, enabling the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to play a more effective role in defending the interests and just causes of its member states.
