Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Gaza 23/08/2025

In a precedent of extreme gravity, which constitutes a first in the history of the Palestinian question and in the history of the entire Middle East region, the United Nations officially declared, on Friday, a state of famine in the Gaza Strip.

What provokes the most outrage and condemnation is that this fully established state of famine is not dictated by a case of force majeure, but in fact represents a political choice and the result of planning by the Israeli occupation. The declared state of famine is by no means unrelated to the project of displacement, nor to the project of reoccupation of Gaza, and even less to the so-called “Greater Israel” project.

Algeria firmly condemns these policies and practices imposed on the Palestinian people, in the context of the ongoing genocidal war in Gaza, and calls on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities in the collective action required to cancel the “Greater Israel” project and preserve the viability of the two-state solution as the basis for any just, lasting, and definitive settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Algeria, as a member of the Security Council, reaffirms its commitment to continue its diplomatic efforts aimed at supporting the Palestinian people, working to end this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, and accelerating the creation of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with Al-Quds Echarif as its capital.
