Tasked by the President of the Republic, Mr. Attaf is representing Algeria at the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly

Tasked by the President of the Republic, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, arrived today in New York to represent Algeria at the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Algeria’s participation in this high-level UN gathering reflects its continued active presence within the multilateral framework. It underscores its unwavering commitment to contributing to international efforts aimed at strengthening international peace and security, defending just causes, and promoting cooperation and solidarity among nations and peoples.

In this context, Mr. the Minister of State will participate in the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly, scheduled to take place from 22 to 28 September 2026, under the theme: "Restoring trust, managing transformation: a United Nations that delivers for all".

The high-level segment will feature a number of high-level meetings addressing key priority issues and challenges on the international agenda. These include the High-Level Meeting to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Declaration on the Right to Development, the High-Level Meeting to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action to combat racism and racial discrimination, as well as the High-Level Meeting on Sea-Level Rise, and the High-Level Meeting on Climate Action and Just Transition.

On the margins of the high-level segment of the General Assembly, Mr. the Minister of State will participate in a series of ministerial meetings to discuss several regional and international issues, most notably the Palestinian question, developments in the Middle East, peace and security issues in Africa, as well as digital transformation.

In addition, Algeria will participate as part of the various regional and international organizations and blocs to which it belongs, by attending the coordination and side meetings of the League of Arab States, the African Union, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, and the Group of 77 and China.

In parallel, the Minister of State will hold a series of bilateral meetings with his counterparts from brotherly and friendly nations to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation and partnership, and to exchange views on key pressing regional and international issues. He will also meet with several senior officials from the United Nations and other international organizations.
