Mr. Magramane co-chairs, alongside his Spanish counterpart, the session of Algerian-Spanish political consultations in Madrid

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounes Magramane, co-chaired today, Monday, September 28, in the Spanish capital, Madrid, alongside his Spanish counterpart, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs, Mr. Diego Martínez Belío, the proceedings of the session of Algerian-Spanish political consultations.

The proceedings of this session allowed for a review of the status of Algerian-Spanish relations across various fields, which have experienced a strong momentum consistent with the positive dynamic witnessed in bilateral ties between the two countries in recent times. This was reflected in the recent visit paid, at the invitation of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, by the Prime Minister of Spain, Mr. Pedro Sánchez, to Algeria on July 20, 2026, and the important decisions that resulted from it aimed at diversifying the areas of cooperation between the two countries. It was also reflected in the meeting held between the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, and the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. José Manuel Albares, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two sides also addressed the ongoing preparations for the 8th session of the Algerian-Spanish High-Level Meeting, which will convene in Madrid in the coming weeks. Both parties emphasized that this important bilateral milestone will serve as an opportunity to assess various aspects of cooperation between the two countries and chart new, promising horizons for the bilateral partnership across various sectors. Additionally, draft bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding currently under review which are scheduled to be signed during this mechanis were presented.

On the economic front, both parties expressed their satisfaction with the level of commercial exchanges between the two countries, which has witnessed a qualitative leap in recent times. They also stressed the importance of encouraging productive investment in Algeria, given the immense potential and promising opportunities available in our country, as well as the incentives granted by the new investment law to foreign companies. Furthermore, the two sides discussed the cooperative relationship between Algeria and the European Union, as well as ways to reactivate this partnership.

The two parties also exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual interest against the backdrop of current international developments in the Middle East and their implications for international peace and security and the global economy. Developments regarding the Palestinian cause and the Western Sahara issue, the situation in the Sahel region and Libya, as well as the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, were also discussed.

At the conclusion of the consultations, both sides expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes of the talks and their shared aspiration to continue joint work and intensify coordination, thereby opening broader horizons for bilateral cooperation.
