Mr. Attaf receives a phone call from his Jordanian counterpart

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received a telephone call this afternoon from the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the brotherly Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Mr. Ayman Safadi.

On this occasion, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, foremost among them the systematic escalation by the Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Jerusalem, most recently manifested in yesterday’s raid on the Qalandia Training Centre of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), in flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

In this context, the two sides stressed the need to respect the legal and historical status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. They also emphasized the need to mobilize the support of the international community to put an end to these recurrent practices and violations, which risk undermining the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and jeopardizing efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace throughout the region.

The two ministers also discussed the latest developments in the Arabian Gulf region and the Middle East, particularly efforts to de-escalate tensions and the importance of prioritizing diplomatic and peaceful solutions in a manner that promotes security and stability in the region.
