Mr. Attaf Receives a Delegation of the African Union Peace and Security Council

Today, 14 September 2026, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, received a delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council, led by the Ambassador of the Republic of Benin, whose country holds the Council's presidency for the month of September.

This visit comes within the framework of the 10th edition of "Africa Amnesty Month," hosted by Algeria on 14–15 September 2026 under the theme: "Promoting the Silencing the Guns Initiative and Strengthening Sustainable Peace through the Exchange of Experiences in Small Arms and Light Weapons Control and Mine Action Procedures."

On this occasion, Mr. Ahmed Attaf welcomed the Peace and Security Council delegation, reiterating Algeria's steadfast commitment to maintaining its active contribution to continental efforts aimed at establishing the foundations of peace, security, and stability in Africa.

In this context, the Minister emphasized the necessity of strengthening African Union mechanisms for conflict and crisis prevention and resolution by addressing their root causes through a comprehensive and proactive approach that guarantees African solutions to African problems, free from foreign interventions that fuel tensions and contribute to arming conflicting parties.

For his part, the Ambassador of the Republic of Benin to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, H.E. Mr. Hervé Dadjedji Djokpe, speaking on behalf of the Peace and Security Council members, expressed his sincere gratitude and appreciation to Algeria for hosting this significant continental event, which aims to consolidate the values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence in Africa by encouraging the surrender of illegally held weapons and prioritizing dialogue and reconciliation over violence.

In conclusion, the Minister wished the delegation members a pleasant stay in Algeria and expressed his hopes for the success of this event in reaching tangible results that contribute to curbing weapons proliferation and bolstering efforts to finalize the complete elimination of colonial-era landmines from the African continent.
