Mr. Attaf Participates in the Joint Ministerial Meeting of the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on Jerusalem in New York

During his participation in the Joint Ministerial Meeting of the League of Arab States and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation on Al-Quds, held within the framework of the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, affirmed that the status of Al-Quds is not merely an agenda item in a political process, but a matter of international justice and legitimacy. He stressed that any unilateral measures aimed at altering the character, status, or demographic composition of the city generate no right and confer no legitimacy.

The Minister of State reiterated Algeria's insistence on the necessity of preserving the historical and legal status quo of the Islamic and Christian holy sites, foremost among which is the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque in its entirety. He called for moving toward coordinated Arab and Islamic action within the United Nations and across various international fora to defend the legal status of Al-Quds, counter attempts to impose a fait accompli, and enhance legal and political protection for Jerusalemites.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf concluded his intervention by stating that protecting the city of Al-Quds, safeguarding its holy sites, and preserving its identity remain a collective responsibility requiring the rejection of occupation, refusing to coexist with it, or allowing its violations to become an accepted reality.
