Mr. Attaf Participates in the 166th ordinary session of the Council of the League of Arab States at Ministerial Level in Cairo.

The Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, H.E. Mr. Ahmed Attaf, participated today in Cairo in the proceedings of the 166th Ordinary Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, held on 7 September 2026.

Chaired by the sisterly Republic of Tunisia, the meeting addressed several items on its agenda, foremost among which were the developments regarding the Palestinian cause, the rapid developments in the Arab Gulf region amid military escalation, as well as the tense situation across a number of Arab states.

The Council adopted a series of resolutions reflecting steadfast Arab positions on these issues and reaffirming the necessity of bolstering Arab solidarity and intensifying efforts to address the challenges and crises facing the region, in addition to considering and adopting resolutions pertaining to the operation of the General Secretariat of the League.

During the session's proceedings, the Minister of State delivered an address reiterating Algeria's firm positions in support of the Palestinian people, their just cause, and their legitimate, inalienable rights—chief among which is their right to establish their independent, sovereign state within recognized borders, with Holy Jerusalem as its capital.

Mr. Ahmed Attaf also reaffirmed Algeria's full solidarity with Arab states facing aggression, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive approach to address regional crises by tackling their root causes and prioritizing political solutions and dialogue to restore security and stability while safeguarding the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Arab states.

In a related context, the Minister of State stressed the importance of elevating joint Arab action and enhancing its effectiveness, highlighting Algeria's support for the reform process of the League of Arab States and the modernization of its working mechanisms to enable the organization to play a more effective role in defending common Arab interests and responding to the growing challenges posed by rapid developments in the region.
