Mr. Attaf Holds Talks with South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation

Continuing his activities on the margins of his participation in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Ronald Lamola. The two ministers discussed the state of the historical relations of friendship and cooperation uniting the two brotherly countries, as well as prospects for strengthening and elevating them across various fields, in accordance with the high directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and his brother, the President of the Republic of South Africa, Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa.

The talks provided an opportunity to reaffirm the shared commitment to continue working toward implementing the results and pledges arising from the State Visit paid by President Ramaphosa to Algeria, and to execute the outcomes of the 7th Session of the High-Level Binational Commission held in December 2024. In this regard, it was agreed to convene a ministerial meeting at the earliest possible date in preparation for the upcoming session of this mechanism.

In the economic sphere, the two ministers reviewed the prospects for strengthening and deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in the sectors of mining, hydrocarbons, and agriculture, as well as realizing available partnership opportunities in these fields. They expressed their satisfaction with the completion of the process concerning the establishment of the Joint Commission on Trade and Investment, as a mechanism that will contribute to pushing the economic partnership between the two countries forward.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides reaffirmed their adherence to the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant United Nations resolutions.
