Mr. Attaf Holds Talks with His Sahrawi Counterpart

Within the framework of the series of meetings he is holding on the margins of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and African Affairs of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, Mr. Mohamed Yeslem Beissat. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the latest developments regarding the Western Sahara issue, particularly developments in the UN-led process aimed at reaching a just and lasting political solution that guarantees the Sahrawi people the exercise of their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions.

In this context, the Minister of State reaffirmed Algeria's firm and principled stance supporting the just Sahrawi cause and the right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, emphasizing that Algeria will continue to support UN efforts to ensure the Sahrawi people are enabled to exercise this right, as it constitutes the core of the Sahrawi issue and the foundation of any just and lasting political settlement, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law, and resolutions of international legitimacy.
