Mr. Attaf Holds Talks in New York with Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade

Continuing his activities on the sidelines of his participation in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly convened in New York this week, the Minister of State, Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the sisterly Republic of Zimbabwe, Mr. Amon Murwira. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on the current state and prospects of relations between Algeria and Zimbabwe, expressing their satisfaction with the level achieved in these relations, which are based on solid historical ties, unwavering solidarity, and a convergence of views on numerous regional and international issues.

On this occasion, the Minister of State congratulated his counterpart on Zimbabwe's election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2027–2028 term, expressing Algeria’s readiness to share its experience and lessons learned from its mandate on this UN body during the years 2024 and 2025.

For his part, the head of Zimbabwean diplomacy commended the tireless efforts made by Algeria during its successful mandate on the Security Council, particularly regarding the promotion of peace and security in Africa. He expressed his country's appreciation for the continuous support and solidarity between the two nations, emphasizing that Algeria represents a strategic partner for Zimbabwe.

Furthermore, the two parties addressed the question of Western Sahara, reiterating their commitment to achieving a solution based on the exercise by the Sahrawi people of their inalienable right to self-determination, in accordance with the relevant principles and resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union.
